Winner of the CMA Blues Showcase 2010
Congratulations to The Janet Barnes Blues Band, winners of the Charlotte Music Awards Blues Showcase, presented at Elwood's Music Hall, April 10, 2010.  The CMA advisory board would also like to recognize the oustanding performances from Jo Gore & The Alternative (Durham), Big Ron Hunter (Winston-Salem) and The Lovepipes (Greensboro).  Not only did the audience enjoy the evening but the musicians from the competing bands had a chance to interact with their fellow Carolina blues artists and as a result, Janet Barnes and Big Ron Hunter are going to co-write songs together.  This is what the CMA's are all about.  As the winner of this event, The Janet Barnes Blues Band will perform at the CMA Red Carpet Affair, November 18th, at the NC Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.  A special shout out to our sponsor ThermaFuse, who helped organize this event.

Congratulations to Donna Duncan this years winner of the CMA Blues Showcase. The event which took place in Salisbury, NC at the Black Box Theatre was the most hotly contested CMA showcase in the past three years. Each of the bands competing had the audience up and on their feet cheering for more. This showcase was noteworthy in that it featured three bands fronted by women and one band just out of their teens. Jeff Cheen would like to thank Urban Detoxx, Jill Dineen and Blueshabit for their participation, professionalism and cooperation, which make up the spirit of the Charlotte Music Awards. We would also like to thank our partner in this event, The Rowan Jazz & Blues Society and its founder Eleanor Qadirah who are presenting The Rowan Blues Festival Oct. 10th.
